Who: Zani Gugelmann
What: Santo, her new collection of
18-karat-white-gold, bullet-shape pendant necklaces embedded with precious stones such as rubies, black diamonds, green emeralds, and yellow sapphires
Where: Kirna Zabête in NYC, Curve in L.A.
Why: Each bullet unscrews to reveal a tiny piece of paper, which Gugelmann encourages using to scribble down something special.
User’s Guide: “If you look up silver bullet in the dictionary it reads: a simple and seemingly magical solution to a complicated problem. I see the scroll as a place to record a goal. It’s all about the self-fulfilled prophecy.”
Inspiration: “My Filigrana collection is all about my family roots in Peru, but the Santos collection is a means of self-expression and how I live here in New York. The only common theme is that they both come from the heart.”
Life Choices: Twenty percent of the proceeds from each bullet goes to charity. Red-ruby-encrusted pendants’ profits go to Aid for AIDS; blue sapphires to the Red Cross’s Soldiers of War fund; and the yellow sapphires to Gugelmann’s mother’s organization, Tierra y Luz, which provides disaster-relief in Peru.
