Being in Asia, it’s impossible to miss reading about the Edison Chen scandal mania that is so riveting within the Asian celebrity scene currently especially with the hundreds of photos that are out there on the Net. Some bits of the information are so hilarious, like someone who commented why Edison would enjoy women who looked like goats from their waist down. The women, in particular Cecilia Cheung and Gillian Chung were lambasted not for the racy pictures, but for the fact that they didn’t go for Brazilian Waxes to keep their nether region clean and tidy. And this got me really curious. Is Brazilian wax the norm now?
So out of curiosity, I visited various forums in Singapore to find out about the Brazilian Wax market here and was surprised to learn that it’s actually getting popular with the girls. In fact, many who have done it said they got addicted because of the hygiene and aesthetic factors, especially the freedom to wear even the most revealing swimwear and lingerie. Some were actually getting waxed before their wedding day or just to give their partner a surprise because it apparently enhances their sexual experience. I imagine many would have done it yesterday or the day before as a Valentine’s special?
So what really happens at a Brazilian wax session? Like a facial, the whole act is conducted in a private room of course. Because you only need about a quarter inch of hair for the wax to grab onto, your waxer will start by trimming your pubic hair to the right length. The waxer will dip a waxing stick into a pot of hot wax and then spread it onto your skin and hair. She will then apply a cloth strip over the still warm wax, pressing firmly so the cloth will adhere to the hair and skin. When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off, in the opposite direction of your hair growth, so that all the hair will be ripped out by the root. *ouch* Lotion will be applied over the area to soothe the soreness but expect slight bleeding.
The entire process should take about 10 to 15 minutes depending on your waxer but I learnt that the faster it is, the less discomfort there is. And if there are any stray hairs, they will be tweezed out. Waxing usually starts in the front and moves toward the back. Contrary to what has been written, it appears that you do not have to move around in any odd positions to get waxed.
Popular places for Brazilian Wax in Singapore are Spa Haven, Strip, Honey Pot Wax Boutique & Fingerwork (Tel: 6327 5967). Some of them are even offering painless waxes and charges vary from S$30 to S$60, depending on the availability of special promotions too. You should also take note to avoid going for a Brazilian Wax a week before your period as the area could be too sensitive and becomes awfully sore afterwards. Another consideration is that the waxing sticks used by these salons ought to be disposable for hygiene sake. In addition, a good therapist will ensure minimum ingrown hair.
Pubic hair will grow in about 3 weeks but in between, there could be some itching. However, most of the ladies indicated that the new hair are finer and not as thick.
